Stem
cells hold
tremendous potential for the development of new therapeutic strategies
for tissue regeneration. However much has to be learned of the fate and
function of these cells in the living tissue. Advanced molecular and
micro imaging methods play an increasingly important role in the
rigorous evaluation of stem cell-based tissue regenerative strategies.
Imaging techniques such as high-resolution micro-Computed Tomography0
(micro-CT), Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT),
Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Bioluminescence and Fluorescence
imaging provide non-invasive, real-time, quantitative tools for cell
and tissue analysis. We are now able to track implanted cells, monitor
their differentiation and observe tissue development in vivo. In this
workshop, we will review the aforementioned imaging techniques and
their application in stem cells- based skeletal tissue regeneration.
